True Leadership

Tim Lemming, a Sheep Farmer in the South West of Victoria, put on an afternoon event yesterday (see images down the bottom of the page) to help Farmers get through the unprecedented dry period they are currently experiencing. He only thought about putting on the event 10 days ago and had to line up the speakers, the venue, food, grog, sponsors, etc. And then he had to get people to attend. We all know it's difficult to get Farmers to attend events; they are busy people. But Tim and his crew pulled it off and they got over 300 people there. To me, this is real leadership when you can identify the mood and vibe in your community, and then you stand up and do something about it. Sometimes, it takes something like this for people to get their mojo back. And by attending, people know that there are others in the same boat and all of a sudden, you feel a little better about your own situation. Then there is catching up with others, which can be worth as much as the information that's provided on the day. If you feel that people are at a bit of a loss in your Farming area, don't be afraid to get on the front foot and do something about it. Get something going that will bring people together.
