Learning from last time
Read below in the Machinery and Equipment section where Deere & Co have put off well over 2000 workers and shifted some of their US operations to Mexico, where labour is cheaper. There is a downturn in demand for new Machinery and Equipment in many countries, including our very own, where you see Machinery yards full of unsold stock. I am told that Mack Trucks here in Australia has over 400 unsold Prime Movers sitting in Yards across the country. According to the article below, Deere & Co. are approaching this demand downturn differently from how they did it in the past. They would try and manipulate demand with discounting and finance incentives to make those extra sales, which meant they didn't have to halt production too much or put people off. These tactics would have worked to a certain extent, but not fully. Now, stock levels are rising, and rather than do it the way they have in the past, they have decided to slow down production instead. Shrink the business. They have learnt from the past. We are all affected by the industry's ups and downs, and Deere is no different. What sort of things do you do when industry confidence is down? Reply to [email protected]
