Do we need Ag Influencers?

There is an article below in the Dairy section about Peter Russell-Clarke, you know, the chef guy who convinced us all the ditch margarine for Butter. How successful was that? Margarine is processed trash, and Butter is so much better. But it’s good to see we can change consumer sentiment with a bit of smart marketing. It got me thinking about how influencers are modern-day marketers, done through all the social channels. They are people who do something unique, build a large following and then flog products and services and get paid to do so. Good on them. It’s the new age form of advertising and it works. So, Peter Russell-Clarke was an influencer before his time. But does Ag need influencers? Do we have any, for that matter? I know a person on Twitter who is a self-proclaimed Ag influencer, but how much cut-through do they get? Perhaps it’s something the Ag industry needs to look into more. Getting people with huge social media followings to talk about our industry to the masses. I know it’s not us, but perhaps we need to change our ways. Who would make a good Ag influencer? Reply to [email protected] P.S. Make sure you send this link to your database and through your social media channels. Let’s get this Farmers - No Food and Fibre week underway. Who’s in?
