The Tractor Cab

We talk about the thinking chair which I have at home. It comes in handy sometimes. I had a reply from a Farmer who said this: “I worked out my thinking chair is my very comfy air-cushioned JD Tractor seat in the cab”. Yes, there would have been a lot of hair-brained schemes dreamt up in the Tractor cab. There is probably no better thinking chair. I just want to know whether more thinking was done pre or post auto-steer. Pre, you had to concentrate on driving straight, and you had to keep an eye on the Combine to make sure all the cogs were turning. Now, Post-auto-steer, they watch movies, listen to podcasts or scroll on their phones, which can limit thinking time. All this talk got me thinking that the Tractor Cab is a wonderful place to spend the day. I remember back in my teens jumping on the Tractor to spend a day working up the paddock and how much fun it was. The smell of freshly tilled soil. It was even more fun on a Saturday when you could listen to the footy. And now the cabins are much more comfortable than they were in my Tractor-driving days. They are desirable places to be, and I wonder how Farmers are going to be able to give the seat up when automation comes in. Perhaps they won’t. A crowbar might be needed.
