No 184 - Friday's Club Notes

The “Club Notes” for Friday, the 19th of April, 2024.

From a negative comes a positive

The tweet the WA Farmer put up about how he was going to have to shoot his 3000-plus Sheep got much attention over the last 24 hours. And rightly so. I have put the tweet at the top of the Sheep, Wool and Lambs section below. Farmers in WA, especially the Sheep guys, are feeling the pressure. And this is a sorta call for help, a last resort thing. It's what happens when people feel they have lost control and the industry that has served them well in the past is teetering on the edge. That, combined with a record hot and dry year, it's not hard to see why some people are starting to crack. On a positive note, they avoided having to shoot them, as renowned Livestock Agent Alex Collins from Bendigo bought them. Well done, Alex; I'm sure you don't want the pats on the back, but what a fantastic thing to do. I am not sure what he paid for them, but that's a little bit beside the point. One thing Alex did say was, "No Sheep should be getting destroyed in any part of the country with proper marketing". I found that interesting. What's your take on this incident? Reply to [email protected]
