To cut the Crop or not

In SA, perhaps Southern NSW and Victoria, there will be alot of decisions made in then the next fortnight. To cut the Crop or not. As we get to that point where the Crop is stalling, in that it's run, or running out of moisture, the decision will need to be made. This all needs to happen before it's too late and things start to go backward. If no decent rain happens in the next 10 days, there might be a hell of a lot of Crops going down. It's much better to get in before it starts wilting away to next to nothing. The advantage of cutting Hay this year is that there is next to nothing around, and if the Crops are running out of moisture, the Pastures will too. Livestock will need to be fed. So it's required, it will be in reasonable demand, and the price will be ok. The downside is that it's not like Grain, where you can sell it any day of the week; there has to be demand for Hay, and it's a feast-or-famine industry that can be temperamental. Do you think you will have a decision to make on whether to cut the Crop or not? See a good guide in the Hay section.  Reply to [email protected]
