The “Club Notes” for Wednesday, the 10th of July, 2024.

Dribs and drabs for now
We went for a trip to Wagga Wagga from Central Victoria last week, and all the way up the pastures were really struggling. The Crops were also struggling and had patchy germination, especially on the heavier ground. Anything on sand-based soils was much more advanced and filled in. On the way home we headed South of Wagga Wagga through Mangoplah and backtracked our way down the Albury. This area was looking extremely dry, and there were alot of Cattle that were being fed. They are a fair way off getting any feed. I was talking to a guy from Griffith, and he said they are magnificent, have moisture, and aren't too far away from things warming up. Early August, things will start to grow. Victoria, SA, Tassie and the areas I spoke about in NSW are getting rain but only in dribs and drabs. However, whilst it's cold, this will suffice and keep things going. It's a case of limping through the winter. I pulled out a few old Fence posts last weekend, and there is plenty of moisture all the way down. We just need it to rain come August and we might salvage the season. The Sheep and Lamb job is lifting, and we are starting to see $300 plus for Lambs and $200 plus for Crossbred Ewes. This will instil some confidence. It's a funny old season. How are things going where you are (please let us know your area)? Reply to [email protected]
