The “Club Notes” for Friday, the 24th of May, 2024.

Exhibit A right here

I am back reading the Rural Newspapers again after nearly a decade away. I am not reading the physical paper, but the digital one that is exactly the same as the one you buy at the newsagents. I saw this article in the Stock Journal yesterday that took my fancy; you can read a couple of snippets from the article in the Sheep and Wool section below, 3rd and 4th story down. They have a Feral Goat problem out in the Flinders Rangers of SA. So Andrew "Cosi" Costello, who is a big radio and TV celebrity in SA, has decided to help the Graziers and park operators by selling 5000 cut and packaged Goats carcasses into Adelaide and outlining areas. Cosi is a trusted brand in SA, and I'm only guessing here, but I would estimate that 4800 of those 5000 that bought a carcase would never have tried Goat before. How good, and what an effort to be able to sell so many. And it's not like selling ice to the Eskimos; it's like selling them a pair of bathers. There is something to learn about what has happened here. The other day, we wrote about influencers and how they have become a new industry for selling consumer goods and services. It's massive now, and social media is the platform they all use. So the learning for me is that it can be done in Ag, and we have exhibit A right here, 5000 packed Goat carcasses just like that. If I were in Ag in SA and trying to promote something to the wider community, then finding someone like Cosi or Cosi himself would be high on the agenda. Can you think of someone out there who would be great a promoting Ag or Ag products or services? Reply to [email protected]
