Don't build your House on rented Land

I came across this statement yesterday morning, and it is a great way to describe how some businesses put all their eggs in the social media basket and risk it all. This is exactly what Galah Magazine editor Annabelle Hickson spelt out in her fortnightly email yesterday morning. You see, the rural-focused magazine has over 30,000 Instagram followers. Instagram is an important business tool for them, and because they are in the news game, there is a risk Meta (Instagram's owner) will shut down their account, robbing them of their best marketing avenue. You can read the article in the "other Ag stuff" section at the bottom of the page. It's a great lesson, and what a great saying, with Instagram being the rented Land and Galah being the House. If I had a choice, I would ditch social media altogether. In fact, for this little Farmers Club startup, I have deliberately not opened up any social media accounts to help market it. Would it help if I did, yes, it would get it out there to a wider audience, but I just don't want to do it and won't. I am not anti-social media; I use it regularly, but I just like it a little less each day. Is social media becoming too domineering?  Reply to [email protected]
