Rural support

I heard an inspiring podcast yesterday morning. It was the Humans of Agriculture one featuring Steph Trethewey. Take a listen here. Steph is a city girl who had a pretty high-profile TV news reporters role and, by her own admission, was a pretty shit person. She then married a Farmer, and they bought a Farm in Tassie, which would be a massive transition for any young lady. And it was. But Steph was up for the challenge and used her inner bravado to break through the loneliness and isolation, but after their first child, things started to break down. Steph's mental health started to go backwards, but still, she put on a brave face. So much so that she had a miscarriage and a day later was out on the Motorbike mustering Cattle. Looking back, she can't really understand how or why she didn't respond to that miscarriage in a different way. What happened on the back of it was the creation of Motherland, an organisation helping mothers in rural areas cut through the issues they face. It's a wonderful organisation doing some sensational work. If you want to get inspired, listen to the podcast. Have you struggled with isolation and loneliness as a mother?
