Outside noise

I saw an interesting sentence the other day. It went like this: Does someone's questioning of you lead to you questioning yourself? To me, it means if we listen to all the advice we have got/get, then we will never get anywhere. You sort of get the jitters about doing something because you worry what people will say. If that's the way it's working for you, then that's a major handbreak. Ag is a game where we get influenced by others easily. It seems to be a place where we are always getting questioned, and if it happens often enough, then it starts to sink in. It takes a lot of mental strength to ward off the naysayers. We are great experimenters in Ag, and it's why we make production and economic gains because we try things. But we could be better if we just didnt listen to the outside noise. And most of that outside noise comes from our peers. I remember when we, as a family, moved off the Farm and went and created a new life for ourselves 350 km away. People would say if it doesn't work out, you can always come back. That never entered our minds. But it can work the other way, like when we went to the US to try and do a Farm Tender equivalent over there, that didn't work out, we failed, and we did come back. Can you pinpoint a time in your life when you wished you hadn't listened to others? Reply to [email protected]
