Perhaps an equity thing

Once you have finished reading this, have a look at the four very last posts at the bottom of the page. Two of the posts came from SA Grain Farmer Corbin Schuster, who said this: "Considering Australians' current obsession with houses, it's difficult to conceive a time when grand homes would just be abandoned in the countryside. Rural Australia is littered with homes that families just walked away from at some stage in the past". But it wasn't what Colbin said that got me thinking it was someone who replied that did. Here's what he said here: "It's a stark reminder of how tough times can be". Thinking about it, he's right; things must have to be very crook if you walk away from something like a house. We struggle to fathom that in these housing-obsessed days. But they did it back then because, on a lot of occasions, they were forced to. I'd say there wasn't much equity around in the early days, perhaps zero, so that might be where some of the difference lies. The sparsely populated Mallee regions of SA and Vic are a great example of many abandoned homes. We think it's tough enough to make a decent living from Farming today; it was a mighty lot harder back then, and the proof is in the abandoned housing. Do you have abandoned Houses on your Farm? We have an old Pub and House where the ruins are still present here at Fook Farm (pictured). Reply to [email protected]
