Suckcession
We write about succession a lot, and the reason I called it "suckcession" is because it sucks. It's hard work, it takes time, it's confrontational, and we are going to upset people along the way. It's one of those things in Ag we talk about a lot, and some will embrace it and do it well, but in 30 years time, we will still be talking about how shit we are at it. Anyway, last week, I had my own succession moment of sorts. I had a meeting with a business consultant about our Farm Tender business, and he said you need to get some sort of exit-type plan for your shareholders. I asked him what that looks like, and he said we need to work on a way for shareholders to be able to sell their shares; you need a plan, he said. I said right; this in my business succession moment, as opposed to my Farm succession moment, which I had already been through a decade ago. So now we have to get our own house in order and think about the next phase of our business and what that looks like. But you know what, I am really looking forward to this one, it could bring up a myriad of opportunities. And there's not $30 million dollars of Land to sort, that's suckcession…. Take a look in the "Other Ag Stuff" at the bottom of the page, which has some good info on Farming succession. Reply to [email protected]
