The Farmers Club

No 210 - Monday's Club Notes

The “Club Notes” for Monday, the 20th of May, 2024.

Beauty and the beholder

We have all seen a rundown Farm where the occupiers at the time have struggled to make it work, only to have it bought by someone who turns the show around, gets it going and turns a so-called bad asset into something good. It's not quite flipping Farms material, but it's the next best thing. It's another story for another day, but I reckon there's a good quid in buying rundown small acre blocks and giving them a coat of paint, so to speak, and then flogging them. Getting back on track, with the consolidation of Farms over the years, obviously, the good Farmers have the right business model to survive, and they consume other Farms, change the model to theirs and away they go. Seemingly turning bad dirt into good. We all would have seen it over the years some of you would have done it. This industry no longer allows fringe players who just battle away, operating in the red all the time. That might sound harsh, but it's a brutal game where business models need to evolve, and profits need to be made more regularly. There is still a place for the passion of just Farming, as we pointed out in the Cattle story below. But whatever the case, the money has to come from somewhere. Have you seen where so-called bad dirt has turned into good with ownership change? You might have done it yourself.  Reply to [email protected]
