Reading the play
Reading the play is an underrated social skill. Some people do it better than others, and at the end of the day, you don’t have to do it like a poker player; all that’s needed is some good old common sense. A Farmer sent me this today: “We ordered a Spreader for Gypsum season this year, and it’s still undelivered apparently due to component issues. Amazingly, not one person from the Dealership or the Spreader Manufacturer can tell you what components are the problem. The same salesman who sold us the Spreader rang the other day for the first time, probably ever, asking when we were thinking of updating our Headers. I said they were already two seasons past our normal update (I thought he might have known that by looking at our history)”. So, this is what I am talking about when reading the play. This Farmer is obviously frustrated about the Spreader issue. So what the salesman needs to do is address the Spreader first before he even starts talking about trying to sell a Header. Plus, reading the play can mean doing a little homework to see when they last purchased their Headers. Do you think the art of reading the play has been lost? Reply to [email protected]
