Small group big power

I think you would have to agree that some of our advocacy groups in Ag are failing us. I think the money-go-round model under which they all operate is broken. Some of these groups had great power in their day, and the older folk in our Farming community who were once a part of these organisations would be shaking their heads. But it's probably no one's fault; things have just drifted this way. I think the future for Ag advocacy is smaller, more localised, or niche-type groups that can be formed with little funding or formality. They come together for a cause. They can form and then unform once the desired outcome has been achieved. That could be a cause to fight against something, or it could be something that is going to advantage the group's participants and the local community. I have seen a couple of these smaller groups come together recently, and they have certainly had an impact. Smaller groups are lighter on rhetoric and heavy on action. And these groups, if they are localised have the ability to bring the community closer together, which can be an added benefit. Small groups have big power and I think this is the future of Ag advocacy. Do you agree or disagree? Or do you see something else at play here? Or do you have faith in the current setup?  Reply to [email protected]
