Drive through society

I was having a bit of a walk around Port Lincoln, SA, the Sunday before last and what I did notice the lineups at the fast food drive-throughs. Are we becoming a drive-through nation? One of the biggest growing businesses in towns and cities is drive-through coffee shops. They are popping up everywhere. And drive past a McDonalds any morning of the week and the line is long. So, what is it about drive-throughs that we are starting to love so much? I guess it's that you don't have to get out of the Ute to get your coffee or Zinger Burger. Personally, I've never been a big user, although I didn't mind going through a drive-through coffee shop in Bendigo (they had good salad rolls) occasionally when we lived there, but then it got busy and lost its shine. I went through Cummins, SA, the other day, and I see where Nutrien is building a brand spanking new Store with an ample drive-through facility right down the middle of the building. This makes so much sense for a Rural Supplies store that is apparently the highest turnover Nutrien branch in Australia. Back to the drive-through coffee and fast food, we are following the US here and see at the bottom of the page how popular American fast food outlet Chipotle is taking the drive-through to the next level. That will be us soon. Are you a drive-through person, or do you like to go in-store?  Reply to [email protected]
