Gravitating to a specific way of Farming

We can be a little bit like Sheep in Farmering, where we follow the leader. But at times, some break ranks and head down a different path. I know of Organic Farmers, some who have started and given up, and a couple that have stuck fat. Then there’s what they call Regenerative Farming, which has no real system attached to it. Someone described it the other day as Farming for those that have made or make money doing other things other than Farming. Then we have more creditable forms of Farming that operate under a strict model or guidelines. A couple of examples are Holistic Management, Farm Owners Academy and RCS (Resource Consulting Services); Farmers opt-in by paying a fee and then get trained by people who have experience in each Farming system. They run these groups as businesses, and all the ones mentioned above have stood the test of time. No-Till Farming started a revolution and sorta morphed into what we now call Precision Farming, which is widely adopted here in Australia. No-Till was a system, but a rigid one and Farmers started adapting to form their own versions of it, hence why it’s now called Precision Farming. It’s had a huge impact on the Cropping side of things and has transferred the likes of the Mallee areas in Vic and SA from marginal Cropping places into Grain growing meccas. Can all these models survive the long term as Farming systems in their own right, or will they just keep adapting and tweaking each model as we move along? Or will new systems come along? What Farming system have you adopted, and how has it worked for you?  Reply to [email protected]
