This is meant to be Australia……

See the first two posts in the "article and images" section below and check out what Oli Le Lievre and his fellow motel overnighters went through yesterday morning in the thriving town of Goondiwindi. That thriving Town, unfortunately, has a major youth crime problem. And these sorts of issues can turn a thriving town into an undesirable one if they don't get on top of things. To have a gang belting on your motel door at 3 am trying to get your Ute keys so they can take your vehicle for a thrill drive would be bloody scary. Mike Pickard, who works for us over at Farm Tender, used to live in Goondiwindi and alerted me of this problem some time back, so it's still lingering. I am hopeless at Motels, as sometimes, at night, I don't even lock the door. That will change now. As Oli said, "This is meant to be Australia"….. Blank Cheques and the local Pub

The old Chequebook played a big part in our lives a decade or so ago, and going by some of the replies, plenty still uses Cheques. We are now on percentage terms of the population low users of Cheques, but you will be surprised to know that in the US, there is a much higher percentage of the population who use Checks (that's how they spell it). It reminded me of when we used to go to the local pub on Friday night armed with a blank cheque. So what you'd do is pay the tab off and get about $20 extra cash, and that would keep you in beer for the night. That was in the day when you left your pile of cash on the Bar, and the Bar person would just take the proceeds after each shout. But the trick with the Cheque was to make sure you filled in the Cheque butt when you got home. Reply to [email protected]

100th edition

We have made it to the 100th edition of The Farmers Club newsletter. I was pretty confident this short-form format would work, as we had a good indication from the success of our Farm Tender Daily Newsletter, but you never know. I have been part of plenty of failed ideas over the years, but you don't really know if they'll fly until you put it out there. That we did, and so far I'd like to think it is a success. I'm excited about the platform and want to keep doing it for many years to come. Call it my side hustle now, but I think it will be my main game 10 or 20 years down the track. Who knows what it will be like then? You might be all sick of it… If I am still writing this on January the 6th 2037 we will be up to our 4250th edition. Have a great Weekend. Your replies

Below is where we take some of the most relevant comments from your replies. All quotes will remain nameless. See a few current ones below:

  • “I’m now 65 and buggered from all the hard work”. - A Farmer who has worked himself to the bone

  • “It is good to work for yourself, though, and that does attract a lot of us.” - About having your own Farm and being your own boss.

  • “Having your own grain storage infrastructure has been pushed on us by the local Silo’s poor performance”. - A Grain Farmer talking about the slow turnaround times at the local Silo.

  • “We are leaving our farm and other properties 100% to charity. We have selected several charities where salaries and other admin expenses consume 10%-15%. If in doubt, have their accountant do their due diligence”. - Where these Farmers is leaving their Farm and assets once they are gone.

This is scary and what is happening in our Country Towns. Click on the next down, and hopefully, you can watch the video. As Oli said, this is meant to be Australia…..

Looks like a fun job.

No wonder old mate came back

Maybe also the Mainlander Restockers are buying out of Tassie

The older timers talk about 76 as a big crash.

There is a definite premium for Angus over Herefords. Will that spur some Hereford Breeders to switch over?

Tractor Bundies.

See the highlighted alert that I got yesterday (Friday arvo) from Vic Emergency that outlined 60-100mm in our area. It was muggy as all get out, so I’m looking at the radar, not a rain cloud in sight. Apparently, it’s for Monday, but they left off the date. This is how you scare groups like older people. Poor form.

If this is true, why all the focus on Livestock.

The Government are raking it in.

That’ll stir em up.

A good year for Summer pastures.

It’s certainly a good market for us.

It’s a great skill to have.

Table Grape worries.

Talk about foresight - The Yarrawonga Weir is one of the great Australian constructions.

Heading up.

It’s so important to keep growing our export markets
