Our great mates in Freight

I was driving down the Calder Freeway yesterday and saw heaps of Farmers Trucks taking Grain to Port, Hay to Gippsland and going the other way were 3 New John Deere Header to some relieved Farmers up country. Freight and Farming feel like bosom buddies to me. We are so reliant on them for everything we do. Hence, the reason why many Farmers have their own Trucks. They want to control that necessary part of the process. If we do a deal on Farm Tender, there is always a Freight component attached. That's a given. So, a bit of a sing-out to our mates in Freight, we appreciate what you do. Reply to [email protected]

See you at the Cup, the Wyche Cup

Today (Saturday), we are heading to the Wycheproof in the Mallee area of Victoria. I haven't been for years and am very much looking forward to it. These country event-type race meetings are so much fun. I used to go to the races alot, hardly ever now, and I went to a race meeting at Caulfield the other day and found it pretty dull. But Country racing is different. You're with your own (people), and there are so many to chat to. As I said the other day, the Rural and Farming areas are where the last of the salt of the earth people reside, and Wycheproof is just that, and some. So from this very occasional and bad punter, for what it's worth, have a few bucks each way on these. At Flemington, I'm told that Steparty, Horse 6 in race 6 is jumping out of his skin, so each way and in the Derby, race 7 back Mercante, Horse 13, each way at big odds. I'll see you ate the Wyche Cup. Reply to [email protected]

Back to basics

Here's cheers to the old Case IH 2388 Headers. I can't remember how many of these we have sold through the Farm Tender platform, but it would have to be 40 or 50 over the years. Some we have sold twice. And the reason Farmers buy them is they are reliable, the Farmer can fix them, and they are simple to operate. There is a growing group of Farmers who are shunning expensive, high-tech, later-model Machines and heading back to simple. We wrote an article titled "Is there a resistance to tech" back in March. Take a read here. It's a tricky one because if you keep shunning the tech, then your Gear can get pretty old all of a sudden, and older Machines with that sensor tech can cause some problems. Are you shunning the tech, or have you fully embraced it? Reply to [email protected]

What's your currency of choice?

We were in an email conversation with a Farmer who asked me if anyone still deals in slabs of beer. I said, well I do sometimes. I went to a Farm Tender member's place the other day, and he showed Paula and I around his side venture. His side venture has turned into the main game, and I will write about that in the coming weeks. I bought him a 6 pack for showing us around. Outside the card and cash, what's your current of choice?
