Welcome to the 1st edition

This is officially the 1st edition of "The Farmers Club" newsletter. I am not sure where this is all headed, but it will unfold as we get into it. I hope you enjoy the new concept, and please tell your friends, family and colleagues to sign up.

A spot-on reply

We put out a "daily" about how Merino Lambs should be discounted 30c/kg compared with the Crossbred Lambs in the grid system. We suggested that all Merino Lamb sellers should just tick the Crossbred box. Steve from the Wimmera challenged that. He said a 25kg Lamb at a discount of 30c/kg is $7.50. XB skins are worth $2 to - $2. A Merino skin with 50mm of Wool is worth $10 to $15. Who is better off? Yep Steve, you make a good point. You have to weigh up where the dynamics of the market are at on the day.

The oldest profession

I got talking to a Farmer about loyalty in Ag and how Farmers are pretty loyal, except when it comes to price. We got talking about how most Co-op's don't work because it requires a commitment that a Farmer needs to keep. But when they see a better Wheat price over there or a lower MAP next door, they are off and taking a piece of the better deal. He said, "yep, Farmers are the world's best prostitutes". Farming and prostitution, a couple of the oldest professions going around.

An education from Nigel

We love steering Farmers in a direction where we think they can learn something. We often refer to it as "takeaways". It's such a complex game Farming, and that extra little bit of knowledge might just be the thing that catapults your business forward. One person whom I have got plenty of takeaways from is Nigel Kerin, Kerin Ag, Yeoval, NSW. This Wednesday, he has a webinar titled "Considered Decisions Making - Navigating Australia Ag through the booms and busts and today's fast-moving reality check". Click here for more info and to register. Worth tuning in.

End of message.
