The Big Bale

Malcolm McLean invented and patented the first standard Shipping Container in the USA in 1956. Wasn't that a revolution in the freight industry? It made everything very efficient, and nothing has replaced it to this day. It got me thinking about the Big Square Hay Bales. They have been a revolution for the Hay Industry and have transformed it somewhat. It has allowed us to freight Hay long distances, something that is so inefficient if it were Rolls or Small Squares. But there is still an unanswered question that flies in the face of the Container and Big Square. Why did the Cotton Industry go from Big Squares to Rolls? They have done the opposite. Does anyone know why? Reply to [email protected]

90 percent of winning is about just turning up

See below the Mobble image, 2nd one down. Take a read of the quote in there. I know their business pretty well and use their product. Jock, the founder, is only a relatively young fella to be in the software game but is doing some great things in this space. They have a Livestock Management Software business with a growing clientele. Check out the app here. Jock is off a Farm himself, so he has an advantage; he knows how Farmers think. He knows exactly the level of service required, and going by what the client said below means they are putting it into action. We have been banging on about customer service in Ag for a while now, and we will keep promoting the ones that do good because they deserve to get extra business. Someone said the other day that "90 percent of winning in Ag is just turning up". Turning up to me means returning a call, a text or an email or just doing what you say you're going to do. It's as simple as that. What's your good, bad or indifferent customer service story? Reply to [email protected]

Danny's protest

Remember Danny Johnson, the wrecker from Warracknabeal, who in 1990 wrote a letter that was published in the Wimmera Mail Times that triggered a revolution. His "Save Australia" rally was a protest against the Victorian Labour Government and attracted, according to the Wimmera Mail-Times, 150,000 Rural folk who protested in the streets of the Melbourne CBD. I can certainly remember going, and I would love to get my hands on the original letter he wrote that resonated with so many people from Country Victoria and beyond. I can't really remember what it led to, but I know Danny opened up an eccentric restaurant and wedding venue called Danny's Rusty Nail just out of Warracknabeal. I remember going to it, and it was an enjoyable experience. If were were in trouble then, what would Danny be thinking about what's happening now? Does anyone else remember Danny's "Save Australia" rally? See a photo of Danny below. Reply to [email protected]
