In the game longer

I was talking to a Cropper out Jeparit way, and he is vigilant about summer spraying and conserving moisture, and he said that has paid huge dividends this season, which has been dry. He said he has a neighbour who is not as vigilant about moisture control as he is, and his Crops are ordinary. And he wasn’t having a potshot at him as the Farmer in question says he doesn’t like summer spraying and would rather keep the feed for the Sheep. I think after a couple of good years in a row in SA and Vic, where it is tight, we get a little complacent about our moisture-retaining program. Someone said recently that we have to go into every Cropping year thinking it will be a dry one and take every measure possible to conserve every drop we can, and if we do, we will be in the game longer than anyone else, and that might be the difference between a profit and a loss. We have put an image up in the Cropping & Grain (paid) section of an area that missed all the summer sprays, and the Crop is dead, whilst the moisture-retained area is going along pretty well. Chalk and cheese. What will be at the top of your moisture-saving list in 2025?  Reply to [email protected]
