Have we lost something here?

I had an interesting text from a subscriber who is in the Sheep industry, and he talked about how they used to have a place where people could learn together; he said this: “The group atmosphere lifts you. It challenges you. You push harder in a team environment. Where are these opportunities now? Farm500? Bestwool? Lifetime Ewe? To belong to a gang, a pack, or a club, you need to have trust, belief and common interest. We really lack this in Ag, especially in Livestock production. We only come together to compete, to sell or to protest. Not often to compare, encourage, engage and learn. To inspire us to go to the next level of production. Every time we have a learning day, it’s some salesman selling stuff, not comparing, not encouraging questions, only engaging a sale and telling us about what they sell. Being a farmer is getting more lonely all the time. We need more human interaction in our businesses”. He makes a very good point. Have we lost our way to collaborate on things, to learn together. I find the statement that we only come together to compete, to sell or to protest very interesting. Do you agree that something is missing here? Do you agree that we only come together to compete or to be sold to?

PS - Yesterday, we wrote about the late Colin McKenna and his organisation, The Midfield Group. Unfortunately, we pronounced it as The Midland Group. My mistake Reply to [email protected]
