The Haunted House

Many Farmers still blame the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) for the collapse of the Livestock market. I don't think we can blame them solely, but they did contribute with their dire forecast that eventuated for some but didn't for others. Sometimes, you have to experience something to learn, and we all learnt that a forecast from the BOM is just that: a forecast. We can acknowledge it, but let's not take it to the bank and action around it. But what we can criticise the BOM for is the blowout in the cost to run the place. In three years, the cost has gone from $389 million to $515 million today. In the last decade, it has spent $866 million on the computer and observation system called ROBUST. They are over budget by $78 million. Is ROBUST any better at forecasting? They are still trying to figure that one out. They have spent another $450 million between 2007 to 2017 on a go to water info site which nobody uses. We spoke about ghost jobs a week or two back; perhaps the BOM headquarters is the haunted house. I can't imagine spending $866 million and $450 million on projects that some would describe as failures. See some snippets below in the paid section below. Should the BOM stick to doing the basics?
