Farmers need to be using PPSR's

Beston Global Food Company in SA will close for good in early December. SA Dairyfarmers' Association chairman Robert Brokenshire said about 40 Dairy Farmers were owed more than $10m for milk previously delivered, which they were now unlikely to see. It racked up debts of some $72.1m, with the NAB owed $52.5m. The question I ask is how did they get into so much debt and why would the NAB let them in so far. Once again, Farmers are the losers, not to mention the 150 people who have lost their jobs. This is on the back of the recent S&W Seed Company swindle, where Farmers have been stitched up by some $10.5m. Unlike the S&W one, where we heard from a number of angry Farmers, we haven't heard or seen anything in the media about how these Dairy Farmers are feeling about it. It must have a sapping effect on you, knowing that you can't claw that money back. I guess you have to write it off, find another more stable supplier and move on. I think Farmers need to be looking at using PPSRs (Personal Property Securities Register) more to protect themselves.
