Welcome back common sense
We are all about common sense here. And It’s very heartening to see common sense fighting back in what might have been a 5 or so year absence. We have seen a few examples of this recently. One was the Victorian government wanting to ban gas, that was until they realised the joint would shut down without it, so they said they are not banning it anymore. And now they are helping gas companies fast track through the maze of red and green tape so they can start producing quicker. Commonwealth Bank tried to add $3 to our withdrawals; they did a quick 180 once people started kicking up a stink, and the foreign-owned pub group who wanted to ban any Australia Day activities did an even quicker turnaround after heavy backlash. One common denominator here has been how the public has campaigned against these companies and called them out via social media. Sometimes, we are critical of social media, and rightly so, but because of the number of people that use it, it has the ability to change policy or some company-derived viewpoints we might not agree with. How good is that? Many a boardroom will be taking note of these incidents, and it will get them thinking about the angle they take in certain issues like wokism. It will be interesting to see what Coles and the like do with the Bovaer push. Long live common sense, or should I say welcome back. Have we seen any backflips like this in Agriculture?
