Pub talk
Firstly, Merry Christmas to you and yours. I hope you have a great day, and thank you for your support. Because it's Christmas Day, let's go a bit lighter today. Someone put a photo of the Birdsville Pub up and asked the question what is your favourite Aussie Pub? I will reveal mine at the end. Pubs are a part of our Aussie folklore, and you go to most rural places, the Pub is usually the grandest building in town, sometimes two stories. Pubs usually can tell a thousand stories, and where I grew up, Marnoo, I can still remember the many characters that used to adorn the place. Pubs are all about people, and I have a theory about publicans; you have to be customer-centric to the nth degree to be a good one. You have to work so hard to get a good result in a Pub; they are not easy businesses to run. But the good ones run a ripper business, and the bad ones struggle. You can see it a mile away, and for some reason, many Australians have a penchant to run a pub, and most shouldn't. Hospitality is such a hard game, and customers can be so hard to deal with at times. For the record, my favourite Pub is the Jetty Hotel in Glenelg, SA; my 2nd favourite is the Mitre Tavern in the Melbourne CBD, and my favourite Country Pub is the Balldale Hotel in the Riverina of NSW. It's a great example of a pub that was going bad, then closed for a number of years only to be revived by a couple from Melbourne, who have transformed the one-horse town establishment into something else.
