No 401 - Friday's Club Notes

The “Club Notes” for Friday, the 3rd of January, 2025.

Welcome to Dimboola

A very Happy New Year to you all. Paula and I have a little ritual each New Year's Eve now where we take off in her car and stop at a caravan Park in a small country town and camp in the back of her car. We have done it 3 times now. There are some rough stipulations: the Park has to have green grass, it needs to be by water of some sort, and the town has to have a pub. Dimboola in the West of Victoria ticked all those boxes, so we headed off on our 3-hour drive. Dimboola has held many identities over the years. It's been a railway town, a River town (they have a wonderful section of the Wimmera River running through the town), the Western Hwy ran through the town until the bypass was built, it's an Agricultural town and now, according to the locals they now identify as a tourist town. And going by the numbers in the Caravan Park, they could easily be that. They also have a wonderful pub which has some fabulous old world dining rooms. The joint was pumping on NYE. While at the bar, I came across a prominent local Farmer I know. We got chatting, and when I was about to head back into the dining room, his parting comment was welcome to Dimboola. On the way there, we stopped off in St Arnaud to get a few beers from the Supermarket, and we caught up with a local Farmer there who said the same thing: Welcome to St Arnaud. It got me thinking that it would be a great thing to say to anyone who is visiting your town or Farming area to make them feel welcome. Welcome to 2025..... Do you have pride in the town or area you live in? Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
