The “Club Notes” for Saturday, the 4th of January, 2025.

Lesson’s learned
Grazing Sheep or Cattle is mostly non-scientific for many of us. Set stock grazing techniques have been used for donkeys for years, but since the emphasis is more on the kilos gained for young stock, people have adopted unscientific rotational grazing techniques. When I say unscientific, I mean that there is no real measure of performance of both pastures and Livestock, nothing at your fingertips at least. Nigel Kerin, in a post on social media recently (See it below in the Cattle section), discovered through his use of the Opti-Weigh in-paddock weighing platform that he was leaving his mob of Lambs and growing young Cattle in his paddocks for days too long despite the pasture still looking good. They were dropping weight instead of gaining it. How we win in today's Livestock game is to have younger animals always gaining weight, so to lose it means the optimum weight specs aren't met in the proposed timeframes. So in an unscientific grazing system devoid of technology, the ups and downs would be happening all the time. It's well worth watching the video below a couple of times to make sure you get what he is saying. This small sample size just goes to show how we are only scratching the surface as far as realising Ag's true potential. What sort of grazing system are you using to fatten animals? The Next Draw - We have changed the date of the next draw to the 10th of January 2025. The next draw will work like this. It will have two parts. The 1st draw will be a 2 × 6 months subscription (2 draws) to this newsletter for non-subscribers that sign up as a paid subscriber (Remember, 30 days free) between now and 3 pm Friday the 10th of January 2025. They will go into a mini-draw. Eg, if 20 people sign up in that time, 20 will go into the draw for the 2 x 6-month subscriptions. The odds of winning are short. The 2nd draw will be for all current subscribers (minus the ones above) for a 2 × 6-month subscription (2 draws) that they can give to someone (family member or friend) you think might be interested in receiving the newsletter. Drawn 3 pm Friday the 10th of January 2025.
