The “Club Notes” for Tuesday, the 7th of January, 2025.

What am I most worried about in 2025
In Australia, we have turned into a high-cost-of-living nation. I would love to see a chart of where we rank for the cost of living as far as the world is concerned. From a Farming and Agricultural perspective, I think the cost of doing business, the cost of running a Farm, is my biggest concern in the year ahead. We are great in Ag of increasing production, and that has been a constant over time. We found out over the last 2 years in the Sheep and Cattle game that when prices get below the cost of production, it can do a lot of damage. Farmers lose faith in what they are doing, what they have done well in the past and it is confidence-sapping. Do we hold too much faith that our commodity prices will stay above the cost of production? We have no choice, I guess. We are a pass-on nation, and when a company's margins are squeezed, they simply pass that cost on the the consumer. But very rarely can we do that in Ag. Farmers might estimate their monthly bills piled up on the office desk to be, say, $70 thousand, only to realise it is more like $90 thousand when they pay them. That's when we get caught out. We have to then pay attention to the way we operate and develop bulletproof cost structures like the Iron-Ore miners do. We need to understand our margins better. I'd really like to know the biggest concern you have from a Farming/Ag perspective in 2025. Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
Next members draw - Subscribe to win
The Next Draw - We have changed the date of the next draw to the 10th of January 2025. The next draw will work like this. It will have two parts. The 1st draw will be a 2 × 6 months subscription (2 draws) to this newsletter for non-subscribers that sign up as a paid subscriber (Remember, 30 days free) between now and 3 pm Friday the 10th of January 2025. They will go into a mini-draw. Eg, if 20 people sign up in that time, 20 will go into the draw for the 2 x 6-month subscriptions. The odds of winning are short. The 2nd draw will be for all current subscribers (minus the ones above) for a 2 × 6-month subscription (2 draws) that they can give to someone (family member or friend) you think might be interested in receiving the newsletter. Drawn 3 pm Friday the 10th of January 2025.
