Don't let the paint fade

One of our subscribers wrote this in reply to a story we did on the town of Sea Lake: "Hi Dwain. Reflections on Sea Lake is a reminder of gravity: what goes up inevitably comes down. Unless we inject uplift. The only constant in life is change. The phases of pioneering, development, consolidation, decline, decay and replacement are certainties. The so-called Silo art trail is an example. New paint on old "canvas" was a short-term idea absent a long-term vision. Short-term economic uplift, inevitable fading paint and decline as the short-term novelty literally fades into obscurity". So this is probably a call out to residents of Sea Lake by saying don't get complacent because what if the overseas tourists stop coming? Thinking about what was said above and how we can relate it to our Farming businesses. The things that we want to keep advancing require effort and input. Anything that is not focused on will decline. A Shed is a great example; an unused, non-maintained Shed will decay pretty quickly, and the tin will start to come off, and it won't be long before it starts to look messy. If we want to be successful at what we do, we have to give it everything; we can't be average anymore. We could do things at 70 per cent 30 years ago and get away with it; if we do that now, we are in decline. It's that sort of faze we are in. The locals that thought their town would boom on the back of the Silo art would now realise it was only a sugar hit at best. If it means something to you, then don't let the paint fade. I think there is a great lesson here. Have you had something go into decline since you lost focus on it?  Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
