No 422 - Wednesday's Club Notes

The “Club Notes” for Wednesday, the 29th of January, 2025.

NFF's gone somewhat rogue

I see where the NFF has appointed an outsider to the new CEO role. They have gone somewhat rogue…. And I like the move. Newly appointed Troy Williams has a military background and has spent a fair bit of time lobbying with the government for the education and dental industries. NFF President David Jochinke said this: "Troy is recognised for his exceptional ability to bring stakeholders together, negotiating with senior government officials, politicians, and industry leaders". When you think about it, and with all due respect, dealing with governments on policy has not been a strength of the NFF over the years. Being Farmers first and foremost, the thinking and backgrounds are poles apart. Let's hope that Troy can change all that and give Ag a better seat at the table. It just might be the tonic the NFF needs to get the government to listen by appointing an experienced lobbyist and negotiator. I think we have tried the Ag voice, and it seems to have fallen on deaf ears, at least with this current government. And we might, with fingers crossed, might get a change of government, which would be a bonus also. He's got that determined, almost intimidatory look about him. See the story below in the "Agribusiness" section. Do you think that appointing an outsider with credentials might be just the tonic the NFF needs?  Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
