Trained to the minute
I put it out there recently as to what I thought the best Farmers did to keep themselves ahead of the pack. Some agreed, and some had different opinions on how they defined what a good Farmer was. One Farmer said this in reply to the story: "Interesting comment re controllable; Pinion and a few other consulting businesses did a big study on the "best" Cropping Farmers. The not big thing that stood out to me wasn't any of them 3 (weed control, moisture retention and Fertilising). It was timing". This was one I never really thought of as being the single biggest thing that sets the best from the rest. But, when you sit down and think about it, they might just be on the money. So, let's break it down. Timing can be something that comes so naturally to one Farmer, and it can be equally unnatural to the next one. To have timing is to have a bit of a sixth sense about what needs to be done and when. But the timing thing has to be meticulously planned. Bart Cummings, one of the greatest horse trainers ever and the winner of 12 Melbourne Cups, was said to have all of his Melbourne Cup winners trained to the minute. And just like the best Farmers, timing was the key to Bart winning time and time again. Do you know a Farmer with great timing? Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
