The “Club Notes” for Wednesday, the 5th of February, 2025.
By Dwain Duxson - An Ag Enthusiast
I just sat back and listened
It was a 9-and-a-half-hour trip to Dubbo last Saturday with three ultra-progressive and ambitious Farmers, two that knew each other and another none of us had met. I was the driver, and I just sat back and listened. It was pretty much Farmer talk from Go to Whoa, and on the return trip, they had a few different perspectives to talk about after our day at Nigel and Kate Kerins on Sunday. Just listening, it did strike me how much Farming has changed since I left the Farm in 2005. Some of the things they were talking about I had never heard of before. It just goes to show how complex Farming has become as it blew me away how much knowledge these guys had about their craft. One was a Grain and Sheep Farmer, the other two were Croppers, traded Cattle, ran Sheep and, to top it off, both owned Dairies. As you can imagine, there was a wide range of topics covered. These guys put a big emphasis on coming out the other end of their Farming careers having builts serious businesses, or at least that's what I took from them. The best thing that I took away from them was the fact that they turned up; they were all super busy people but found the time to leave the Farm and travel 9.5 hours each way and 3 days to learn and be educated by another leading Farmer. If you ever get the opportunity to do this, don't pass it up. How they will look at it, is the upside from the knowledge gained will far, far outweigh a couple of days of work missed. Do you think you need to leave the Farm more to learn? Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
