Starts and ends with one

I saw a blog post recently where the person wrote about the power of one. As soon as I read the first sentence, I thought she was absolutely talking about Farming and Agriculture here (she wasn’t, however). She said this: “You see, in my humble opinion, the foundation of any good business - whether it’s a solo operation, high growth startup or corporate behemoth - starts and ends with one. One is the most important number of all. It’s the origin. The starting point. The block upon which everything else is built and the vehicle allowing long-term success to take root”. I know in our Farm Tender business, when we started, it was one member at a time, one listing at a time, one inquiry at a time and then one sale at a time. And you know what? It is as exactly like that today, nearly 13 years later. I still get excited by these one-at-a-time happenings. To tell you the truth, I love watching the numbers, whether it is a new podcast download, a new Farmers Club subscription (most exciting), a Farm Tender sale one of the guys has made or a reply email from something we have written. The common denominator is one. We talk about one percenters in Farming, and that’s exactly how Farming works. We have written about this many times before: how Farming is a game of increments and how Ag doesn’t allow you to move quickly. That’s why it’s important to adopt the incremental or one per cent mindset and then just keep stacking them up, and you will get there.
