The Good Gout

We talk a lot about community events and how you get that feature event that gets and then keeps your town or community name up in lights. Like the Tamworth Country Music Festival, The Parkes Elvis Festival or the Stawell Gift, just to name a few. For the latter, it was announced yesterday that Gout Gout, the teenage sprinting sensation who has been compared to Usain Bolt, is to run in this year's Easter event. To let you in on a bit of a secret, I have been sitting on this one for a couple of months as a mate of mine (who also went to school there) put the deal together to get him there. How good will this be for the time-honoured event? There was a time when they looked like they were going to fold, they were without a sponsor, and the TV network was going to pull the pin. They even wanted to uproot the event and take it to Melbourne to ensure its survival. All of those 3 things never happened, and Stawell managed to keep the event, but it does wax and wane in popularity and getting the yesteryear crowds is a struggle. But what a shot in the arm this will be as this young man is a worldwide sensation. This is a marketing ploy you can only wish for. I better call him for a couple of tickets, haha.
