Multiples of…..
We covered the subject of having employees in our Ag businesses earn multiple times their wages as a measure just the other day. We only mentioned it in a sentence, so it was brief. Only yesterday, I saw and post on the very same subject that was telling us that in Ag, every employee earned $193k in income for their employer (see int he “Other Af Stuff” section). So you can do the maths pretty easily to see if you paid someone $100k you would roughly get back 1.93 times that. Of course, it’s an average, so that could be more or less depending on the worker of the work conditions. According to the stats, I see we are way ahead of all other counties by some 4.5 times, but we are probably paying a lot more, too. You do wonder how they came up with these numbers, as I thought they were relatively low, but we are a low-margin industry, so it’s probably around the mark. But it’s an interesting way to look at how you value your employees by how much they bring to the table. You could also use it on yourself, as someone working in and on the business. If we all looked at it as a measuring tool, it would allow us to adjust what our employees do, and we might be a bit more specific about their roles. By that, I mean giving them more of the money-making jobs or, as we said the other day, having the right infrastructure in place so they can be a higher earner for you rather than doing low-return fixit jobs. How can we get the best return possible on all your staff, including ourselves? Reply to [email protected] or 0427 011 900
