Not-Milk ain't Milk

They are calling it "The Big Milk Shift", but I think it should be titled "The Big Not-Milk Shift” instead. See in the “Dairy” section below how, in the last 5 years, milk consumption has gone down 7 per cent while the not-milk category (Soy, Oat, Almond, Coconut, etc) has gone up a staggering 55 per cent. Now, I just want to state that I am not a milk drinker myself; I do have soy in my coffee when I go to a coffee shop because the real stuff feels too heavy in my guts. That's my excuse anyway. But as of this morning, I am going to a coffee shop to give the real stuff another crack. It's funny, I stayed at a mate's place the other day, and he said I'm going to get a coffee. Can I get you one? I said yes, make it an extra hot soy latte, he gave me a dumbfounded look and said, "Really?" It's quite alarming the rise in the not-milk category, but it would be coming off a low base 5 years ago. And it's not all lost because all those not-milk alternatives are Agriculture products anyway. Are you a real milk drinker or a wanker like me and have gone down the not-milk track?
