Selling hope is my new favourite saying for the week. It might be longer than a week becuase I think it will be a great way of putting a positive spin on anything Ag and Farming. We might use it a bit. I went for a backroad-inspired drive from Horsham (Wimmera) to Naracoorte in the South East of SA on Saturday. To tell you something that many of you will already know is it’s very dry. From Horsham to Naracoorte is 147km, so only a small trip, but with my zig-zagging/backtracking ways, I made it a mission to use up the full day. But one thing I had pencilled in was lunch at the Border Inn at Apsley. Why? Because I had heard a bit about it, and it’s one of those country Pubs that closed only to be resuscitated by the locals who pitched in and got it going again. A group of locals bought it, got it going again and sold it to a couple who have had to endure a Car crashing through the front door. See a couple of pictures in the “places” section below. Anyway, we are selling hope because when I called her at 1 pm on a Saturday, there would have been 30 people dining and drinking. Apsley is a small town, and people come from miles around to wine and dine at this little pub. Country pubs are in a lot of trouble, and it’s moments like this where, you know, if it’s done right, the country pub model can work.
