Being a price maker
There's a framework around our thinking in Ag, and it's that we are always price takers, but that's not entirely true. There are places and markets where we can set our own prices for the things we sell. Places and markets where we can control the sale. I'll show my bias here, and we will do some scenario playing through our Farm Tender marketplace (FTM), where you can dictate the price you get for something. For example, the unregulated Hay market is where you can list a product on the FTM and put your price on it. There are market dynamics that give you a rough market value for your Hay, but it's things like quality, location, buyer desperation, ability to deliver, etc, that is where you can control the dynamics of the sale. Seed is another product where you can set your own price as it's pretty much unregulated. Used Machinery and Equipment is a product where you have full autonomy over pricing. It can be a market that can vary each side of the average by as much as a double-digit percentage just because of non-known values around Used Machinery and Equipment. Even in the Dealership game, very few people are confident in valuing stuff. In there lies the opportunity. In saying that, there is a rough rule of thumb that if you go too high, you won't sell, but there is a window where people will value things within a range. You just need to find the top of that range. These are just a few examples, there are more. Do you have other markets and places where you feel you can be more of a price maker?
